According to a source from TorrentFreak, both the SmoothStreams IPTV service and website have been shut down and will not be returning.

If you visit the original SmoothStreams website (smoothstreams.tv) you will see the following message.

After researching this story further, we found a Reddit thread and Twitter page claiming to be the SmoothStreams IPTV service.

If you visit the SmoothStreams Reddit thread you find a page with over 2.8K members and all of the posts have been suspiciously deleted.

Their Twitter page notes some of the technical issues users were experiencing in mid-July.

It obvious our host for many channels run into a problem.
Whatever it is it guessing but think no return coming after offline this much so if you want a refund can put a ticket in and you will get refunded if long as we can.

One source commenting on the shutdown believes that SmoothStreams was simply having technical issues while another source suggested that the IPTV service was under serious legal pressure.

On June 17, 2022, it was reported that numerous media companies in Canada filed legal statements against two individuals who were the alleged operators of SmoothStreams.

The report mentions the names of the alleged operators behind SmoothStreams IPTV as Marshall Macciacchera and Antonia Macciacchera.

The plaintiffs claim that these individuals are the owners and operators of various SmoothStreams domains, which included:

smoothstreams.tv

live247.tv

streamtvnow.tv

starstreams.tv

The plaintiffs eventually obtained an injunction from the court to shut SmoothStreams down for good.

This injunction prevents Marshall and Antonio Macciacchera from operating any affiliated websites and requires them to hand over any financial details of their assets to the plaintiffs.

The story then goes on to mention two locations in Canada that were targeted for seizure, but the alleged operators didn’t provide full cooperation.

“During the search, the plaintiffs’ representatives seized dozens of TV receivers and encoders, plus a number of servers believed to have been used for capturing and redistributing the infringing content available via SmoothStreams. However, when those were disconnected a few dozen streams remained up – and Marshall refused to explain why that was the case.”

The report goes on to explain that the plaintiffs had been investigating the SmoothStreams IPTV operation for four years.

This means chasing these IPTV operators was not cheap and more details are likely to be released in the near future.

This isn’t the first time we have seen ACE, MPA, and other authorities come after unverified IPTV operations.
