More projects from Neighbours team

Hot on the heels of Neighbours returning, executive producer Jason Herbison is about to see his next drama miniseries Heat, hitting screens this week.

The Australian / UK co-production is his third miniseries, following from Lie with Me and Riptide and was produced after Neighbours’ finale in 2022.

As he tells TV Tonight, he plans on more stand-alone projects.

“I’m in a very fortunate position of being able to continue to develop other shows, and I’m doing that,” he said.

Neighbours has been absolutely my focus. I’ve lived, slept and breathed it for the last 9 months, since we knew we were coming back. I’m very happy with with the way it’s going, I’ve got a great team in place. So I’m excited to keep leading Neighbours, but I’m also excited to do other things as well.”

Heat is set in Australian bushfire season when two families, long-time friends, venture to a secluded home for a summer vacation. As secrets and lies unravel, it becomes a tinderbox – and not everyone will make it out alive.

The cast features Darren McMullen (Doctor Doctor, Christmas On The Farm), Pia Miranda (Wentworth, Mustangs FC), Jane Allsop (House Husbands, Mrs Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries) and Danny Dyer, best known for his role on UK soap EastEnders, along with Olympia Valance (Informer 3838, Playing for Keeps), Richie Morris (Neighbours) and newcomers Matia Marks, Matteo Annetta and Hunter Hayden.

It is directed by Kate Kendall (Neighbours, Playing for Keeps) and produced by Natalie Mandel (Lie With Me, Wanted) for Fremantle.

Heat screens 9pm Wednesday on 10.
