It’s going to be all Shakespeare pretty much all the time on this channel over the next few weeks, with some interesting adaptations getting their first airing for a long, long time. Earlier on this evening we’ve got David Tennant reflecting on his production of Hamlet with the RSC in 2009, and then there’s the first in a trilogy of the historical plays that were first shown back in 1965. It was a bit of a landmark at the time, directed by Peter Hall and with a stellar cast including Ian Holm, Peggy Ashcroft, Donald Sinden and Janet Suzman, Dame Janet pretty much the only surviving cast member and so setting the scene. Back in 1965 these were actually shown on primetime BBC1, albeit with an intermission to allow you to go to the toilet, but thanks to the pause button we now get in all its near three hour glory.
