Although known for his role in Beverly Hills 90210, actor Brian Austin Green originally started on soap operas like Knots Landing. He even appeared in Good Morning, Miss Bliss’s pilot in 1987. He is also on Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test this season. After leaving 90210, the actor stayed relevant by gaining a season regular spot on Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. While married to Megan Fox and fathering 5 children, life seemed grand to the star. That is until he spent over 4 years struggling to recover from what he called stroke-like symptoms.
While appearing on the Sex, Likes and Spray Tans podcast, hosted by Cheryl Burke, Brian Austin Green discussed his health challenges and finding love with his fiancee Sharna Burgess. About his mysterious illness, he admitted, “I’d spent four and a half years recovering from stroke-like symptoms without ever having had a stroke but I couldn’t speak.” At the time, doctors believed Green suffered from vertigo and ulcerative colitis. “These neurological things started happening after the vertigo, and that was — it was four and a half years of my life. I got to the point where I shuffled like I was a 90-year-old man.”
Leaving Western Medicine Behind
Diving deeper into the issue, Burke asked Brian Austin Green if the illness happened in 2014 when a drunk driver hit him and his ex-wife Megan Fox. According to the star, the press pushed the wrong story, detailing the problem was dietary. “It was dietary. It was all undiagnosed by Western medicine, so I ended up having to finally find a doctor that is much more into, like, kinesiology and Eastern medicine.”
Brian Austin Green shared how the illness puzzled a top neurologist. “I had a doctor at Cedars who is one of the top neurologists in the country and he would share everything that was going on with me with his colleagues and try and figure out what was going on.” He added, “I had done over 190 blood tests. I had two MRIs. And it got to the point where he was like, ‘I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what’s going on with you.’”
Brian Austin Green Gets Help From Dr. Suess
After teaming with a new doctor, Brian Austin Green revealed the cause of his illness to be “internal inflammation from gluten and dairy.” Besides following the advice of the doctor, the actor also read Dr. Suess books to his kids to help his brain recover. “Coming out of it, I was like mid-40s, so it’s like, ‘Okay, how much of it is age-related, like memory issues and things like that? And how much is possibly left over from it. I don’t know if I’ll ever completely know the answer to that, and I don’t know if I’m supposed to. And that’s totally okay.”
