Shark Tank is back tonight with a new episode and the makers of TOAST-IT Arepas are looking to hook the sharks. That item joins others this week, including athletic wear, sandbags, and even burial composting. However, the makers of TOAST-IT want to bring their tasty traditions to the world.
Here is what you need to know about TOAST-IT Arepas and where to buy it.
What is TOAST-IT Arepas on Shark Tank?
Maria Fernanda Cabezas and Maria Corina Cabezas came to the United States from Venezuela and brought their culinary traditions with them. However, there was one thing missing in America, and that was arepas, which the ladies said was a cornerstone of their diets back home. That is when they decided to bring the Latin American staple to America as a health-conscious dish.
Arepas is a South American staple, in particular in Columbia and Venezuela. They are stuffed cornbread cakes that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They are also not something that is limited to one meal and can be eaten at any meal as a side dish or even as a snack. Arepas have no baking soda, baking powder, or yeast and are often made with precooked cornmeal. So, what makes TOAST-IT Arepas different?
The sisters focused on the health-conscious millennial demographic and set out to make something that was different in the food market. The main product here is that ready-to-toast arepa. They are made from pre-cooked cornmeal flour called Masarepa, and they are thicker than tortillas and have a Latin flavor. TOAST-IT Arepas is also gluten-free, has no nuts or sugar, and only has five grams of protein per serving. They can be toasted in an air fryer, toaster oven, or conventional oven in less than five minutes.
