A bit of noughties nostalgia this autumn as it looks like we might be having a repeat of Big Brother vs Survivor, just like in 2001. Different channels, mind, and look, here’s Big Brother on ITV. Quite an interesting location for it, we think, because it never really seemed to take it seriously for the first few years and just continued trying to beat BBC1, only for the final of series three to pull in over ten million viewers, thrashing ITV completely and seemingly taking them totally by surprise, hence their numerous attempts to find something similar. Now they’ve ended up with the original, just five years after the last incarnation, which will mostly be on ITV2 but for the opening night it’s here on the main channel, which still seems a pretty radical move. Apparently it’s all very much back to basics, though whether that includes the mandated discussion topics they did in the first series we don’t know, but seemingly it’s going to be a bit less contrived and artificial than some of the later runs. At least until they panic at low ratings and start fiddling about with it, perhaps.
