Bachelor In Paradise star Danielle Maltby turned 38 earlier this week, but she wasn’t feeling much like celebrating. Keep reading to find out why she spent her birthday in tears.
BIP Love Connection Turns Sour
Bachelor Nation fans first met Danielle Maltby during Nick Viall’s season of The Bachelor. The Season 21 contestant was sent home in Week 7, but she didn’t shy away from trying to find love in the franchise again.

She was on Season 4 of Bachelor In Paradise but quit during Week 2. The third time was a charm: Maltby found love with Michael Allio during BIP Season 8, though they didn’t get engaged on the beach.
Fans were rooting for Allio and Maltby, who bonded over their respective losses. Allio lost his wife in 2019, and Maltby lost her fiance to an overdose in 2011.
Danielle Maltby planned to move to Ohio to be with Michael Allio. But their relationship ended before she could. After weeks of online speculation, the former couple confirmed their split last month.

The story behind the split depends on who you ask. According to Michael Allio, the split was mutual, but Danielle Maltby claims she was “blindsided” by the split.

She also revealed that the breakup happened the day after she underwent an egg retrieval process.
With the breakup still fresh, Maltby’s birthday earlier this month didn’t get off to a great start. In the purpose of sharing an “honest moment,” she took to her Instagram to share the heartbreaking start to her birthday.
Sharing a candid photo on her IG Stories, Maltby shared that while she was excited to see her friends that day, she had a hard time the night before, per Us Weekly.
“It’s OK to cry and feel things as they come up. Just a gentle reminder everyone feels things in their own way and time,” she wrote on the snapshot.
Maltby added, “Crying is a release and waves of emotions if you’re able to sit with and in them are momentary even if they don’t feel momentary” before adding that she was going back to sleep.
Another crop of Bachelor Nation alums are eager to find love again on the beach in Mexico. Season 9 of Bachelor In Paradise premiered last month. New episodes are Thursdays at 9 PM Eastern on ABC.
