Deadliest Catch on Discovery is more like a documentary than other shows and the occupation can be deadly. Who died over the years? And which of the cast ended their lives actually fishing for crab? Read on to refresh your memory.
Deadliest Catch Is Really Deadly
Perhaps one of the most memorable illustrations of how easy it is to die on the vessels came when Todd Kochitin passed away. Todd passed away at the age of 30. It took about a year before the details of his death emerged. Fortunately, it didn’t happen whilst the cameras rolled for the Discovery show. While it took time, eventually, fans found out that he passed away after sustaining fatal injuries when an 800 lb crab pot hit him.
Other Deadliest Catch crew members who passed away because of their dangerous job, were Danny Matlock, Josh Paulus, and Blaine Steinmetz. That happened to Eagle III from Dungeon Cove in 2016. The vessel went down, and Reality Titbit reported that Captain Glenn Burkhow was lucky to survive a huge killer wave. Capsizing in high seas and freezing cold conditions means very little chance of survival.

Deadliest Catch is Not Like Alaskan Bush People
Gold Rush and Alaskan Bush People have both been accused of a lot of scripting by Discovery fans. However, actually getting out in the harsh conditions of the waters around Alaska is another story. Under pressure to perform in very dangerous situations, can take a toll on mental and physical health. One of those who passed away included Mahlon Reyes.

Mahlon Reyes passed away from a heart attack, with no relationship to any actual fishing problems. Deadliest Catch star Nick McGlashan was very upset when he heard the news. However, he also passed away. Captain Nick was only 33 years old when he passed away unexpectedly. The news that arrived in December 2020 shocked Discovery fans to the core. After all, he appeared in 80 episodes of the show.
Other Sad Deaths From The Discovery Show
Over many years, Dealiest Catch fans heard that people like Phil Harris, Blake Painter, and Justin Tennison passed away. Back in 2010, Phil Harris was unloading the boat when he suffered a stroke. Five days later, he passed on. Earlier this year, Johnathan Hillstrand mourned the death of Mike McCullon. Remember, he took Mike’s son Jesse out to sea to scatter his father’s ashes. Others suffer from ill health, like Captain Bill Wichrowski.
