The Season 7 Premiere of Rick And Morty titled “How Poopy Got His Poop Back” aired last night. The biggest question fans had going into the premiere of the new season was simple. Who replaced Justin Roiland?
As long-time fans of the show know, Justin was the voice of both Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith. Fans suspected producers of the show reached out to “sound-a-likes” on social media platforms. There were even a few popular contenders who made a living on TikTok by doing impressions of various characters.
With the Season 7 Premiere, fans finally have an answer to their question. Turns out, the same individual was not selected to voice Rick and Morty. So, who did they select to voice these iconic roles? More importantly, were the new voice actors well-received during the premiere? Keep reading for all the details.
Rick And Morty Season 7 Premiere: Who Replaced Justin Roiland?
Confirmed by Deadline, Ian Cardoni landed the role of Rick Sanchez. And, Harry Belden landed the role of Morty Smith. Per IMDb, Ian Cardoni is a relatively new player in Hollywood. Many would agree that Rick And Morty is the first real big/noteworthy title on his resume which currently has 13 different credits on it.

The credits on his resume date back to 2008. Most appear to be shorts.
Per IMDb, Harry Belden also appears to be a relatively fresh face with Rick & Morty as the first major role on his resume. In fact, his resume includes six credits. He did land a small role in a single episode of Chicago Med back in 2020.
If Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden are well-received by the Rick And Morty franchise, this could be a real breakout moment for both of their careers as voice actors.

Did Fans Enjoy The Season 7 Premiere?
Next to who replaced Justin Roiland, the other big question is simple. Were Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden well-received by Rick And Morty fans during the Season 7 Premiere? The Adult Swim series has a massive and loyal cult-like fanbase. So, replacing the voice of the new main characters is a huge gamble.

In response to the trailer ahead of the premiere, Rick And Morty fans were hesitant to welcome the change. In fact, a tweet viewed over four million times noted the new voices of the characters Rick and Morty were “trash.”
After watching the episode, many seem to disagree with the initial assessment. Many fans admit they were nervous about the show returning without Justin Roiland. Furthermore, they agreed that the new voices would “take some getting used to.” They, however, thought the show offered the same level of entertainment it always had.

There were also some fans who argued the new voice actors were not a huge deal because the characters sounded exactly the same. Some clarified they believed Morty sounded a little different while Rick sounded exactly the same.
Overall, Rick And Morty fans were understandably cautious and scared of this huge change. They, however, found themselves enjoying the first episode. And, they looked forward to Episode 2 of Season 7.
