As we’ve reported, Lydia, Trace Bates’ wife, and her family are at risk of being deported. The Romeike family has been in the United States for more than a decade after seeking asylum. They left Germany, claiming they were persecuted for their religious beliefs because they were not allowed to homeschool their kids.

Over the past couple of weeks, there has been a lot of legal action going on behind the scenes. The Bringing Up Bates family pushed petitions and asked fans to take action. Now, a decision has been made.

On Friday, October 6, the news broke that a decision had been made regarding the Romeikes’ deportation case. On Facebook, Representative Diana Harshbarger made a statement, revealing that ICE is allowing Lydia Romeike Bates’ family to stay in the United States for another year. With this decision, Representative Harshbarger said that Congress will have the opportunity to consider a bill, which would “grant the Romeikes permanent residency.”

Also on Friday, the Home School Legal Defense Association shared an update via Instagram. Trace Bates reposted it to his Instagram Stories to update his followers.

In the caption of their post, the HSLDA said, “According to our friends on Capitol Hill, this outcome is the direct result of your calls, your petition signature, and your outreach to Congress on this issue.”

The Romeikes and the HSLDA attorney, Kevin Boden, will meet with ICE next week and confirm the decision. However, the HSLDA is anticipating “a positive outcome” based on what has been shared so far.
